My name is Andy Pope. I am a lifelong pianist, composer, and musical playwright. In recent years, I have also been involved with journalism. My work has appeared on the independent news site Berkeleyside, the blog site Classism Exposed, and the news site Spokane Faith and Values. In addition, I’ve been published in a newspaper called Street Spirit, where my column — Homeless No More — has encouraged those who have escaped homelessness during their transition to indoor living.
I’ve also written a new musical, Eden in Babylon which explores the effects of homelessness on the youth of 21st Century America. As such, it portrays the hugeness of the division caused by the ever-widening gap between the super-rich and the grossly impoverished in today’s society. Though meant to be entertaining, Eden in Babylon is also intended to be enlightening, since it depicts the world of youth homelessness in a realistic way.
Among my many pages and posts, you will find sound files, demo recordings, videos, a script, and other material pertinent to this project. While I don’t want to give away the whole story on the front page, the comments below are from people familiar with it. I will be honored to hear that you appreciate my work.
Please donate to Eden in Babylon.
